The items shown below are from the collection of Dr. Theodore G. H. Drake who was a Canadian pediatrician who bequeathed his collection in 1961 to the Toronto Academy of Medicine (the Academy). The collection included 3,000 antiques, including ceramic feeders, and 1,500 rare books related to pediatrics and the rearing of young children.
At that time the Academy was an established institution having lecture rooms, a library, a museum, robust medical programming and a large hall for meetings. Unfortunately in 1984, the Academy started failing financially and after a few years sold its real estate properties and gave the collection away.
It is my understanding that the collection presently resides at the Royal Ontario Museum and is not displayed.
I want to highlight the picture at left so one can admire the wonderful food warmers in the cabinet behind him and the wonderful posset pot he's holding.
